Jacqueline Mathaga — or Jaki as she prefers — grew up in Athi-River, a town outside of Nairobi in a household that supported her outspoken disposition and early conviction for gender parity. Her outspokenness as a child stayed with her as she has climbed the career ladder.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Natal in South Africa and Master of Public Administration from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, Jaki worked in fundraising and communication positions for various nonprofits in South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya.
Jaki serves as the head of The Family Group Foundation. The Foundation is the Corporate Social responsibility arm of Family Bank Limited, Kenya Orient Insurance Company Limited and Daykio Plantations. She and her team handle programs in Education, Health, Entrepreneurship and Agribusiness for the 3 partners. Jaki is passionate about transforming young lives through mentorship.
She is a VVLead Fellow-a Vital Voices global fellowship program for women leaders, and the founding Trustee of ADAT Foundation, an organization named after her son and that works to train parents of children with autism and develop classrooms and resources for learners with autism in Kenya, Liberia and Sierra Leone Jaki is also Founder and Team Leader of Through The Roof, a fellowship and network of parents of children with all kinds of disabilities in Kenya . She is mom to a 13-year-old boy on the autism spectrum and is a Christ follower.
