Macdonald M. Metzger, M.S., DPA. is a DirectCourse Quality Coordinator at the Institute on Community Integration (ICI), University of Minnesota. Metzger is also an alumnus of the AUCD Leadership Academy and a member of AUCD's Emerging Leader Community. He provides quality assurance for the DirectCourse curriculum from ICI's Research and Training Center on Community Living (RTC-CL). Metzger is charged with overseeing the timely and quality production of online training materials primarily for DirectCourse (the College of Direct Support, College of Frontline Supervision and Management, Person-Centered Counselling Curriculum, College of Recovery and Community Inclusion). Metzger also serves as the day-to-day contact for authors, reviewers, and managing editors, and ensures that timeliness and quality standards are met. Metzger has served as a direct support professional, frontline supervisor, and manager during his human services career. He has extensive experience supporting people with disabilities and mental health needs in a person-centered environment. He is a trained person-centered planner. Metzger's international work includes supports for the implementation of the RTC-CL DirectCourse and Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) training of volunteers and CBR facilitators in the Republic of Zambia and Liberia. Metzger is currently a part of the ICI's Workforce Consulting team providing technical assistance to the state of Tennessee. He is a MNLEND faculty mentor and a member of the MNLEND leadership team. Metzger was recently selected by the U.S. Department of State to participate in its Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Disability Employment (PFP-IDE) in Nairobi, Kenya. Metzger is featured on the AUCD 2019 Emerging Leaders Map.
Before immigrating to the United States, Metzger worked as a multi-media journalist for the United Nations in West Africa, served as Communications Consultant for the International Center for Transitional Justice, and is a trainee of the British Broadcasting Corporations (BBC) Communicating Transitional Justice project. He has extensive experience reporting on human rights and transitional justice issues in West Africa.
